On the 20th of May 2016, Lupane State University (LSU) signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). The signing of the MOU opened exciting opportunities for LSU as an institution and for its students. Basing on the relationship established through the MOU, the university will soon start for offer tuition for ACCA and is also working to get accreditation as an ACCA examinations centre for computer based examinations. As a learning provider, LSU staff will start enjoying exposure to vast professional accounting material from ACCA, which will greatly improve the lecturers’ quality of delivery.
The signing of the MOU also opened doors for collaboration between ACCA and LSU in curriculum development and global benchmarking of teaching and learning for LSU’s Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance. Even before the signing of the MOU, LSU and ACCA already had a good working relationship, to the extent that LSU students graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance were eligible for six (6) exemptions out of a possible nine (9). In March 2016, ACCA extended special registration fee and exemption fee waiver for the six exempted modules to all 2015 graduates from the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Accounting and Finance, and final year students studying for the same programme.
