TOWARDS GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT: BUSE CAREER FAIR A SUCCESS

Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) successfully held its second Career Fair on Friday 7 April 2017 at the Faculty of Science Education Complex, where scores of organisations showcased to students and the university community.

The biennial event which ran under the theme, “Building Bridges to a Brighter Future – Connecting BUSE Students to 21st Century Employers” was meant to create linkages between students and potential employees, as well as get Industry feed-back on the perfomance of BUSE students.

BUSE endeavours to have strategic relations with industry and commerce by coining tailor-made programmes that suit the needs of industry. Career fairs are therefore one of the platforms used by the institution to understand current trends.

Giving the keynote address on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eddie Mwenje, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr Cuthbert Katsvanga said BUSE prided itself as a centre of excellence and had been nurturing and churning out some of the best brains in the country and beyond.

Dr Katsvanga also highlighted the need for Universities and Industry to work together in mutually beneficial partnerships and thanked the organisations for their continued support of the instituion.

“We understand that moulding fully baked graduates cannot be the sole responsibility of this University on its own, but rather a joint effort between ourselves and industry. Regardless of the trying times that our economy is facing, I would like to salute players in industry for the undying support that you have consistently offered by considering our students for industrial attachment, which has eventually led to their employment,” he said.

A number of representatives from the 32 organisations that exhibited at this year’s edition also made presentations on their expectations from the students as they seek employment.

The Director of Marketing and Development, Mr Thomas Mahundi thanked sponsors who helped make the event a success. He made particular mention of Old Mutual Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance Company, Vineyard Funeral Assurance Company, Fidelity Financial Services and Ecobank Ltd.

The inaugural Career Fair was held in May 2015.
